PASCO, Wash.- If you thought building a house in Pasco was expensive, the price could be going up even more.
Added impact fees are starting to make it even harder to build new homes in Pasco. The already existing schools impact fee adds almost $5,000 onto the cost of building a home.
Tonight at the Pasco city council meeting they could approve a motion to significantly raise park impact fees, which would cost another $1,000 to build a home. At one point in the past decade Pasco was one of the fastest developing cities in the country, but now it's becoming one of the slowest in the state according to building permit statistics. The Tri-Cities Home Builders Association says adding fees will kill future growth.
"Doing it now when jurisdictions all across the state are trying to figure out ways to lessen impacts on housing to get it going...Pasco seems to be doing the opposite which is putting more fees on," said Jeff Losey, the Executive Director at the association.
The Pasco city council meets Monday night at 7 p.m. to discuss the significant increase in park impact fees for developers.
